Money Talks: Volume 52

23 November 2013

We have four or five different categories that we regularly run here on Money Talks. Sometimes we find lots of news stories in one of those categories, and hardly anything in any of the others. This week we were thrilled to find at least a couple stories in our favourite categories – personal finance, real estate and mortgages, and the Canadian economy. Yes, there’s lots of good stuff for you in this week’s Money Talks!

Personal Finance

Yes, debt can take a large chunk out of your household budget. But how much is it costing you when you don’t pay it? Gail Vaz-Oxlade digs deeper into finding out just how much that debt is costing you.

Would you take a personal day from work to get your finances in order? That’s the challenge Boomer & Echo puts before you this week.

Real Estate

After months of astonishing numbers, the Canadian real estate market slipped last month in October, says the CREA.

Mortgages

Disturbing results from a recent survey show that many Canadian homeowners aren’t happy with where their finances sit, or how being house-poor has eaten away at their lifestyles. The Globe and Mail has the story.

It’s time to ask that question again: will Finance Minister Jim Flaherty interfere with mortgage rules once again? Canadian Mortgage Trends think he will.

Canadian Economy

Many assumed that Target would offer the same sometimes shockingly-low prices that are found in the American stores. However that’s just not the case, and Target’s profits are suffering.

The ongoing Senate scandal had more fuel added to its fire this week, as Duffy claimed that Harper didn’t know about the repayment of expenses given to him by Nigel Wright.

And speaking flaming the fire, Rob Ford put another nail in his coffin this week when he rushed and ran into a female councilor. Sure he may of had his reasons (such as trying to get to someone speaking to his brother on the other side of the room,) but it doesn’t look good, that’s for sure. Deadspin has the story, and the video.

And speaking of Rob Ford, what financial impact has this entire mayoral scandal caused? Find out at RateSupermarket.
