Mortgage Broker TV

22 September 2011

Think about it. We watch decorating TV shows for countless hours on end (we must, there’s an entire industry dedicated to it.) We even watch shows where people look at new homes and try to decide on which ones to buy. So, why not watch a TV show about mortgage brokers, and how they help people get mortgages? This is the exact thing a B.C. mortgage broker asked himself; and in answer, he landed himself a role on a reality TV show that showcases the process of applying for, and giving, a mortgage.
The mortgage broker that will be the star of the show is Jessi Johnson, who heads a team at the VERICO mortgage brokerage, which runs out of B.C. The show, which the networks are hoping will run throughout much of North America, will show Johnson heading and running that team, as well as helping countless soon-to-be homeowners through the process of applying for, and getting, a mortgage.
What’s Johnson’s best hopes for the show? That it will help people understand the whole process of getting a mortgage a little bit better; and that it will put a spotlight on the mortgage industry that it’s never experienced before. He thinks that with the popularity of home loans right now, putting mortgages front and centre in the media is another step to increasing people’s awareness about the industry. And he might be right. Reality TV has been hugely popular for some time, and it shows no signs of slowing down. It’s entertaining, sure. But the popularity is due to even more than that – people learn while they watch, and more people learning about mortgages spells nothing but good news for the industry.
What’s one thing you won’t see on the show? “I’m not going to embarrass mortgage brokers,” Johnson said in an interview about the show. “I swear.”
